An artistic rendering of the silk roads
The Project
Atelier Morales, a two-artist team, travelled accross key points of the historical silk routes to capture via rendered photographs how these corridors that today still connect Europe to Asia allow for a flow of energies, information, goods and people.
« This long and memorable voyage resulted in a vast body of photography that attempts to accurately express the confluence of space, time and existence observed all along the extraordinary land- and cityscapes that we traversed. »
The Journey
The artists travelled more than 14000 km by land through China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia and Germany:
« Our itinerary, which purposely overlapped with some of the routes taken by Marco Polo and Baron Von Richthofen, revealed many emblems that once seen could not be forgotten. The constant challenge was to capture the vast accumulation of information and the varied images encountered, in order to discern the recurring signs that help form a redundant memory on which the silk road’s temporal transcendence is based.«
« In the works that we have created, “arrival” and “departure” figure as key leitmotifs representing the omnipresent road, without which the cities that we visited would not have developed, nor the life that evolved in them and in their surroundings.«
Traveling Exhibition
In the next two years, this exhibition will tour cities in Central Asia and Europe.
